Announcement soon on America's Cup series venues

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The America's Cup team says it will make an announcement soon about the eight cities it has picked to host the first of two series of regattas that will lead up to the 34th America's Cup in San Francisco in 2013.

They've dubbed it the America's Cup World Series, and Newport is among the venues in the running after being knocked out of contention for the final race.

Stephanie Martin, a spokeswoman for the America's Cup Event Authority, says eight different cities will be selected to host nine-day regattas for the 2011-2012 series, and the announcement will be made in the coming weeks. The first regatta is scheduled for July.
