JOHNSTON, R.I. -- Karin Gorman, director and vice president of Rhode Islanders for Immigration Law Enforcement (RIILE), has announced her candidacy for state representative of District 43, Johnston, as an independent candidate.

Gorman, a political newcomer, hopes to unseat two-term incumbent Deborah A. Fellela.

Gorman will officially launch her campaign during a public coffee hour this Sunday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at Brewed Awakenings, 1395 Atwood Ave. in Johnson.

Gorman is the daughter-in-law of RIILE executive director Terry Gorman. She said her "political awakening" stems from her involvement with RIILE, an organization she said helps raise public awareness "about the financial and social impact that illegal aliens have in our state."
