Keywords:WARWICK, R.I. -- A fire in a small shed spread to two nearby houses in the wee hours of Friday morning, sending families into the street and leaving at least one woman temporarily homeless.
More than two dozen firefighters battled the blaze on Aurora Drive for two hours, extinguishing the fire at the three buildings, while avoiding the dangerous live power lines that had fallen in the driveway, said Battalion Fire Chief David Goslin.
The fire started in a shed behind the house at 142 Aurora Drive and spread to the main house and a neighboring house at 150 Aurora Drive, Goslin said. As firefighters arrived just before 2 a.m., the shed was engulfed in flames, and the fire had burned through the power lines, Goslin said.
No one was injured in the fire, but the house at 142 Aurora Drive had about $100,000 in damage, the siding at 150 Aurora Drive was damaged, and the shed was destroyed, Goslin said. The American Red Cross of Rhode Island gave the resident shelter, he said.
The fire is under investigation, however, the cause is believed to be accidental.
