Two arrests in two days for one Providence man

WARWICK, R.I. -- You again?

A little over 24 hours after being arrested by state police for a machete tucked under his driver's seat, Gelio Orellana had a friend driving him around early Friday morning.

Trouble was, the state police say, the friend was speeding.

The car attracted a trooper's attention as it sped up Route 95 north just before 3 a.m., said Lt. Kevin Hawkins. And then, Orellana attracted attention when the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana smoke inside the car, Hawkins said.

After a bag of marijuana was discovered in his sock, Orellana was arrested again -- and spent his second night in a row in a cell, Hawkins said.

Both Orellana and the driver told the state police they were members of the MS-13 gang, Hawkins said.

Orellana, 23, of 975 Chalkstone Ave., Providence, was charged with possession of marijuana and held for arraignment at District Court, in Warwick, on Friday morning. He'd been arraigned only Thursday in 6th District Court, Providence, for possession of a weapon, and released on personal recognizance, Hawkins said.

The driver received a speeding ticket, Hawkins said.
