RIPTA looking for new boss in management overhaul

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority board of directors has begun looking for a new official to head the agency, officials said, in a more toward a general overhaul of the authority's management structure.

RIPTA board Chairman John Rupp said that General Manager Alfred J. Moscola, who presently runs RIPTA, will remain and play a key role at the authority, but that he will report to the new official.

Rupp said that he values Moscola's skills at operating the authority's statewide bus system, and he said that if Moscola's new boss doesn't appreciate the general manager, it would mean that Rupp and the board chose the wrong new executive.

Rupp said the new executive will have a title like chief operation officer or chief executive officer, and that he hopes to hire the new him or her by September or October.
