Brown president won't seek reelection to Goldman board

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University President Ruth J. Simmons has decided not to stand for reelection to the Goldman Sachs Group Board of Directors at its annual shareholder meeting, the company announced.

In a press release, Simmons cites her reason as "increasing time requirements associated with her position as president of Brown."

University spokeswoman Marisa Quinn declined any further comment "beyond what has been reported," she said.

Simmons has been a director Goldman Sachs [GS: NYSE] since 2000. During that time, she has served as a member of Goldman Sachs compensation committee and the corporate governance and nominating committee.

Simmons was sworn in as Brown's 18th president on July 3, 2001.
