Keywords:PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts is promising her decision "in the next few days.'' Former U.S. Rep. Robert Weygand is promising a decision by Friday of next week.
The two high-profile Democrats are among those are "seriously'' considering making a bid to succeed Rhode Island's 1st District Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, who announced late last week he is not seeking reelection.
William J. Lynch, the state Democratic Party chairman the last 12 years, and Providence Mayor David Cicilline announced their candidacies over the weekend.
Neither Roberts nor Weygand currently lives in the 1st District, which stretches from Newport to Woonsocket, bisecting Providence along the way. Both say that is certainly going to be a factor in their decision.
