Keywords:CUMBERLAND, R.I. -- Detectives are questioning a Glocester man, 25, who was found hiding in a shed after police from two states chased a stolen car early Monday afternoon, Cumberland Police Chief John R. Desmarais said.
Liam Lambert is being charged with one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a felony, as well as driving on a suspended license and reckless driving, Desmarais said. He was found behind a house, in a shed on Curran Road after the card was found abandoned nearby, the Cumberland chief said.
On Monday morning, Desmarais said, Cumberland police took a report of a stolen car and entered it into the National Crime Information Center database. Around noon, Desmarais said, Attleboro police noticed a car, ran its plates and learned that it had been reported stolen. Attleboro officers tried to pull the car over, but it continued, with Attleboro and then Massachusetts State Police in pursuit, Desmarais said.
When the car entered Cumberland, Cumberland police and Rhode Island State Police got involved, then officers from all four departments, with assistance from Central Falls police, searched on foot.
Desmarais said Lambert would be arraigned in District Court on Tuesday.
Online records indicate that Lambert pleaded no contest in 2008 to a felony charge of breaking and entering in Cumberland and was sentenced to 10 years, with 3 to serve. Corrections Department spokeswoman Tracey E. Zeckhausen said he was discharged on Oct. 21, 2009.
If he is found as a parole violator on the 2008 sentence, he could be returned to the Adult Correctional Institutions after he is arraigned on Monday's charges, Zeckhausen said
